What are your personal memories of September 11th?
I was working on Long Island. Heinrich IMed be from the ops room saying that the WTC were on fire. I told him he was probably looking at the 91 bombing footage. Then I told him I didn't believe him and went back to work.
He popped back a couple of minutes later. I finally decided to go to the ops room to see what he was talking about. We had MSNBC up on one of the TVs in there. At that point they only knew that a plane had hit. People from all around the office started to fill up the ops center and behind it. One of the new employees that had just started left as her husband worked there. (She never came back to work).
After the second plane hit, people started to cry. Everyone knew someone who worked there. Only about 1 out of ever 5 calls on mobiles or landlines would go through. People who I had not heard from in years started to IM thinking I still was working in the city. Phyllis was calling telling me to come home.
I really wanted to stay around people, but I finally headed home at 11ish. As the bridges on and off of Long Island were all closed I stopped at the grocery store and bought 10 gallons of water, tons of soup and extra bread and milk. Honestly I wasn't sure how long things were going to be shutdown.
Back at the apartment there was only TV. Like everyone else in the NY area I saw the two planes hit thousands of times over the next 5 days until they finally started to resume regular programming sometime the following week.

If you could only save one thing in a house fire (thing, not person), what would it be and why?

Nothing.
I have too much crap. It would be great to start all over again. If I leave the door open the cat will manage to get out herself so no worries there. Important files are backed up online.
If you could write a book about anything, what would it be about?
I would probably write about the difficulties that some people have in transitioning from a 20ish carefree individual to someone who is more "adult".
